Persephone is one my favorite deities - I love that she rules over both flowers and spring as well as the underworld. As a lover of flowers and bones, I feel very close to Persephone. Flowers, with their short life cycle, bless us with ephemeral grace.  It reminds us of the cycle of life and death that birth beauty and spring upon the world. In the middle of winter, the red seeds of the pomegranate shine like a beacon of hope, filled with the life blood of the earth. This also makes me think of the menstrual blood, spilled moon after moon, the other side of life-giving. All of these thoughts allow a peace making between simingly opposite force, so we can hold the abundant mystery of death and rebirth within our bodies and hearts.
